Whilst we support new home building – people have to live somewhere – we also think that a new holistic vision for England’s greenbelt is needed. Otherwise the greenbelt will be eroded away with unsustainable car-dependent housing developments. We want to see sustainable food growing, homes for land workers, and nature restoration – as well as efforts to create urban-rural synergy. Greenbelts were set up to provide space and recreation for urban dwellers. With 13% of England subject to greenbelt this is a huge topic. Any taskforce of experts should include voices from communites and not for profit groups like the Urban Agriculture Consortium, CPRE, the Landworkers Alliance Sustain and others.
